About me

I hold a Master's in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in Computer Science, from Portland State University (PSU). My Master's was focused on robotics, because that's what I enjoy working on most.

I got into robotics in high school, when my school's FIRST Tech Challenge program needed a programmer for all three of its teams and nobody wanted the job. So I took it on and taught myself to code well enough to get the robots driving on their own, and I liked it more than I expected to. I started college in a computer science program, but about halfway through I switched to mechanical engineering because I liked the mechanics and electronics just as much as the code. But I kept computer science as a minor because it was still something I was quite good at.

I grew up in Gresham, just outside Portland, and moved around the area before settling in Hillsboro. I sometimes wish I'd been born somewhere else so I could have found the Pacific Northwest for the first time as an adult instead of growing up in it. It's a beautiful place to be outside in, and it's where I spend most weekends: backpacking, mountaineering, skiing, hiking, or camping. I lift and run, with a goal of finishing an ultramarathon and the PCT at some point in my life. If I'm not outside, I'm either meal prepping, spending more time than I should on smart-home projects, or building out an even better factory in Satisfactory.

Friends would probably call me dependable before they'd call me fast. I hold myself to a high standard in most things, which usually means something takes longer than it should. But when it's done, it's done right.

Robotics is still what I like most, because it brings together three fields that are incredibly fascinating even on their own: programming, electronics, and mechanical engineering. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a robot I built execute its tasks and knowing I succeeded.
